1917 is the year Loretta Perfectus Walsh became the first woman Chief Petty Officer. The 1917 fouled anchor is a subtle nod to women Chiefs throughout the Navy, past, present, and future.
June 1st, 1958, was the birth of the Super Chief, aka Senior Chiefs and Master Chiefs. The first woman Master Chief was selected in 1959.
